Be going to is an essential English grammar structure that helps us talk about future plans and make predictions based on present evidence. This form is perfect for expressing intentions you have already decided on. For instance, if you have bought tickets for a concert, you can say, I am going to see a concert on Saturday. It clearly shows your fixed plan. We also use it for predictions when there is clear evidence now, like She is going to win the race; she is running so fast! The basic structure is simple: subject + am/is/are + going to + base form of the verb. Understanding be going to is crucial for A2 English learners to confidently discuss their future activities and what they anticipate will happen.

スペイン語話者がよく犯す間違い

Spanish speakers sometimes make specific mistakes with be going to:

  • Forgetting the verb to be: You might say I going to study. This is incorrect. Remember to always include am, is, 、または are. The correct form is I am going to study.
  • Forgetting to before the main verb: Sometimes learners say She is going play tennis. This is incorrect. You need to before the base verb. The correct form is She is going to play tennis.
  • Confusing be going to with will for plans: In Spanish, you often use one form for future. In English, be going to is for plans you have already made, while will is for decisions made at the moment of speaking or general predictions. For example, for a plan, say I am going to travel next year (correct), not I will travel next year (less common for a pre-decided plan).
