نحن نستخدم be going to to talk about future plans and to make predictions based on what we see now. This structure helps you express what you intend to do or what you think will happen very clearly. For example, if you have decided to study tonight, you can say, I am going to study tonight. This shows your intention. Or, if you see dark clouds in the sky, you can predict, It is going to rain. This is a prediction based on current evidence. Remember to always use the correct form of the verb to be (am, is, are) before going to and then the base form of the main verb. It is a very common and useful way to talk about the future in English, especially for things you have already decided or things that seem certain to happen soon. Mastering be going to is important for A2 learners and for exams like the A2 Key.

Why do we use ‘Be Going To’ in English?

نحن نستخدم be going to for two main reasons when we talk about the future.

  • To talk about future plans and intentions: These are things you have already decided to do. You have a plan in your mind.
  • To make predictions based on present evidence: This means you see something now that tells you what will happen in the future.

Many Spanish speakers make similar mistakes with be going to. Watch out for these:

  • Using ‘to’ twice: After going to, you use the base form of the verb. Do not add another to.
She is going to to buy a new phone.
She is going to buy a new phone.
  • Confusing with ‘will’: For definite plans or predictions based on evidence, be going to is usually better than will at this level.

I am going to visit my aunt next week.
